Greetings Northrop Community,

My name is Mr. Shoemaker, Mr. Shoe, and I teach first grade in room 113. This is my fourteenth year at Northrop and my eleventh teaching grade 1. I previously taught environmental education as Northrop’s School Naturalist. Prior to that, I taught environmental education for many years at Wargo Nature Center in Lino Lakes. I specialized in kindergarten through second grade school groups from Anoka County schools.

I have a Masters of Education degree from St. Thomas and am licensed for K-6th grade elementary education. My wife Nancy and I live in South Minneapolis with our daughter Marlena, who attends Minneapolis Public Schools. Our older daughter Avery lives in Montreal, Quebec.

Besides basic math and literacy, we do a lot of science, art, and singing in our class. First grade students need and love frequent movement, so I employ a lot of active, hands-on learning. I feel fortunate to be at Northrop and love working with first grade students. I  invite you to visit my classroom.
