My name is Barb Geisel. I am one of the full time special education resource teachers at Northrop Community School.  I am very happy to be returning to Northrop for my third year. The special education team  works in collaboration with teachers, special education assistants, and parents to support the children at Northrop who have different educational needs and disabilities.

Originally, I started my teaching career as an elementary school teacher in Minneapolis. While I enjoyed having my own classroom I realized my true passion was teaching students with disabilities. For the past 20 years I have worked with many different populations including students with autism, cognitive deficits, learning disabilities, and emotional/behavior problems. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree iin Elementary Education from the College of St. Catherine and a Masters of Arts in Special Education from the University of St. Thomas. In addition, I have licensure in Emotional Behavioral Disorders (E/BD), Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD).

Along with being a teacher of students with disabilities I am also a co-parent of a young adult with Autism. This allows me the unique perspective to see and understand the viewpoints of both a parent and a teacher.

I have lived in Minnesota for my entire life. I enjoy the outdoors, camping, hiking, traveling, taking photographs of nature, and spending time with my nine siblings and 14 nieces and nephews.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions, concerns, or successes.

You can call and leave a message at Northrop at 612-668-4520. However, I check my email frequently and it is the best way to get in touch with me. My email is: Barbara.Geisel@mpls.k12.mn.us.
