The Newbery award winning, The Witch of Blackbird Pond, is a historical tale set in the English Colony of Connecticut in the late 17th century. It is about a young girl's rebellion against bigotry and her Puritan surroundings. It describes the "witch hunts" that were prevalent in the Colonies and in England during this time and how "scape-goating" and bigotry can effect a community in rather negative ways.
